World of Tanks is a client-side massively multiplayer online game in real time in the genre of an arcade tank simulator in the historical setting of World War II, developed by the Belarusian studio Wargaming.net. The developers position the game as a massively multiplayer online action game with elements of RPG, shooter and strategy. The concept of "World of Tanks" is based on team tank battles in PvP mode. The online release of the Russian version of the game took place on August 12, 2010. World of Tanks was released in Europe and North America on April 12, 2011.
The game uses a free-to-play business model. Initially, only free download of the client and free entry to the game were declared, but in June 2013 it was announced that the strategy for all existing and future games is "free-to-win" - the complete absence of any advantages in battle for paying players.
