Total War: Warhammer is a turn-based strategy computer game. The tenth game in the Total War series and the first in the Total War: Warhammer trilogy. The game is being developed by Creative Assembly and published by SEGA.
The game is a real-time tactics game with turn-based strategy elements. Unlike the previous parts of the cycle, which were set in historical periods, the action of "Warhammer" takes place in the setting of Warhammer Fantasy, including some characters from there as well. The new mission mode includes battles (for example, the battle at the Blackfire Pass), after passing which, the player gains access to items and abilities. The game also features flying troops such as dragons. The map stretches from the wastelands of Chaos in the north to the southern badlands teeming with greenskins, from the Great Ocean in the west to the gnomes in the End of the World Mountains in the east. Magic is also present in the game, especially among the Empire and vampires, who have access to various schools of magic, while the dwarves and some non-playable factions have almost no access to magic.
In Warhammer, it is impossible to capture all territories due to racial differences. For example, human settlements can only be invaded by vampires and humans, while fortresses are accessible only to gnomes or greenskins. Warriors of Chaos do not settle anywhere at all and behave like a horde of nomads. There are also regions inaccessible for settlement for any of the factions in the game. Territories inaccessible for capture can either be destroyed or raided.
Unlike other parts of the cycle, agents take part in battles. Some key agents can be injured in combat, while all other agents can be killed. Warhammer includes a much wider range of animations. For example, the game has about 30 different body types and skeletons, as opposed to 5-6, as in other parts, not counting the flying creatures. Other "standard" parts of the game, such as city planning, diplomacy and troop creation, remain unchanged.
Cities can be affected by either chaos corruption or vampire corruption. A large amount of it leads to negative consequences. For example, uprisings.
