The Forest is an open-world, first-person survival horror computer game developed by Endnight Games on the Unity 5 engine. The early alpha version of the game was released on Steam on May 30, 2014.

The game is dedicated to survival on an inhabited island: a game character who got to the island as a result of a plane crash must find food and blood for himself, as well as defend against frightening natives-cannibals. The developers set out to make an extraordinary game unlike other survival horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, and instead were inspired by films like Cannibal Hell and The Descent, as well as the computer game Minecraft ... Cannibals, opponents of the game character, are not mindless "zombies" - they are a tribe busy with their own survival and claiming the same resources as the player. During the day, the player can sneak into the caves where these nocturnal creatures live, and kill them in their sleep, until the tribe is completely destroyed - this idea was borrowed by the developers from the book by Richard Matheson "I Am Legend". The deeper the player descends into the caves, the more terrifying and dangerous enemies he will face /
