In the story, the same dashing guy who, under our control, made so much noise in Rockport (Need for Speed: Most Wanted), is sent to Carbon. Running away from the police with a bag filled to the brim with money, he outright angered Cross. Already near the house, the fanatical sergeant again sits down on the racer's tail and - after a short pursuit - "presses" us. Threats, ready to “smear” friends, counted green banknotes - in general, instead of a quiet and calm life for “honestly earned” money, we will again have to return to the big race track.

In Carbon, players have access to about thirty cars in three classes: European tuners (easy to drive, but slow in comparison with their competitors), American "muscle cars" (powerful, fast, but absolutely clumsy) and exotic concept cars (golden mean) ... In total, NFS: Carbon features over 30 licensed cars. By the way, the choice of class at the beginning of a career also determines the storyline campaign, of which, as you might guess, there are also three (10-12 hours each).

Another update is team play. For each race, you can take exactly one partner of a certain specialization: a blocker (restrains opponents during the race), a scout (examines the track for "short cuts") and a drafter (rides in front, leaving behind an "air bag" in which you can move much faster). The emergence of "helpers" leaves an ambivalent feeling - sometimes they are really useful, but in general it destroys the corporate spirit of NFS, the spirit of struggle. Honestly, it's unusual to see another car come to the finish line first, and the victory is credited to you. And artificial intelligence in places acts, to put it mildly, strangely, interfering no longer with opponents, but with the player. In general, not the best innovation - although the idea, of course, was daring.

The city, where, apparently, one continuous night always reigns, is divided into four territories, each of which, in turn, is divided into zones. Any zone belongs to any gang - however, after winning several races, it will become yours. Conquered all zones in one of the territories - fight with the "boss", and then move on. And yes - sometimes the "gangs" will come back trying to get their possessions back.

Almost all of the game modes in NFS: Carbon are carried over from the previous installments of the series. New, with some stretch, can only be called the Canyon Duel. The main task in it is not to lag behind the opponent by more than ten seconds and not to fly off the track (of course, there are special places where it is very, very easy to do this).

Graphically, Carbon looks a little better than Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Clearer textures, higher auto detail and ... that's it. Obviously, the multiplatform nature and the strictly limited development time again affected. But the soundtrack is again beyond praise: hip-hop, rock, metal, electronics - everyone will find a melody to their liking!
