For eight years in a row, Ubisoft taught us one thing: to hunt down and kill the Templars. The very existence of the world of Assassin's Creed was subordinated to this goal. The Assassins were almost like warriors of light, pink ponies rushing through the meadows and spraying the essence of goodness. Altair, Ezio, Connor - all as one fought against evil in the face of the Templars. Rogue on the move overturns the usual world order. Shay Cormac is a former assassin who defected to the enemy. Now he hunts the "brothers" who betrayed him, not shunning the most vile methods of warfare.

Ubisoft has already called Rogue the darkest game in the series. After all, in the service of Cormac - all the power of the Templars. Rich, well-armed and completely unashamed of dirty tricks. For example, use intoxicating gas to pit people. Cormac simply throws a special bomb into the crowd, and then watches as everyone gradually goes crazy and literally bites into each other's throats. He dispassionately observes from a safe distance, and when the job is done, he puts on a protective mask and finishes off the survivors. Can one imagine Ezio throwing such a bomb at a Florentine crowd? But Cormac cares little for questions of morality. His goal is to hunt down and destroy the assassin. At any cost, regardless of the accompanying sacrifices. And if earlier developers punished us for killing civilians, then in Rogue this is no longer a problem.

In fairness, it should be noted that the assassins act tough. They do not go into direct conflict until the last, preferring to sit out in the bushes or on a hill. And if Cormac gaped and did not feel the danger, he would receive a blow of such force that if he made one more mistake - and hello, heaven! The Assassins leave him exactly as much health as is enough to survive the teenager's kick. They also constantly involve their friends in the attack, who pounce on Cormac from all sides, trying to shoot him in the head or blow him up. In such an environment, there is no time for high morality.

This reversal of roles will certainly be the main incentive to buy the game. First, we will have the opportunity to look at the already familiar conflict from a different angle. Secondly, key opponents seem to be giving a full-fledged rebuff. After all, as it was before: the Templar surrounded himself with a retinue and cordons of ordinary soldiers, and we, like crazy butchers, cut out all life in the area. At the end of the episode - a call to "repent" and a quick death. But the Assassins will have to tinker with: without a fight, they will not give up.

It is also good that the authors of Rogue, leaving the water battles of the fourth part in place, decided to add a big city (New York) to the game. Still, Black Flag lacked the urban volume that became the show's hallmark. Many were bored of crawling on tropical islands with a dozen dilapidated shacks. And those who like to sail will be able to visit the Arctic Ocean and explore the islands covered with a thick cap of snow. And watch the northern lights.
