In Battlefield 1, the developers decided not to make one large and long story campaign with one main character (rather, a superhero) traveling across the fronts of the First World War. Instead, we are told five short stories - vivid sketches of stories about the key events of the last two years of the first global military conflict. The main characters are ordinary people who are "grinded" by the war and who are trying to somehow survive in the midst of the horror that surrounds them. And each story is good in its own way. Be it the story of the British crew of the Black Bass (Mark IV tank) breaking through the German lines during the Battle of Cambrai, or the tale of two Italian brothers, soldiers of the elite Arditi regiment, or joint adventures with the legendary Lawrence of Arabia and the battle with Ottoman Empire. However, do not flatter yourself too much: the guys from DICE, of course, are great, but you should not expect from Battlefield 1 the depth and elaboration of Remarque's characters. The game is not trying to become something like All Quiet on the Western Front from the world of video games. Battlefield 1 is more like a good Hollywood movie that respects the history of the war and its participants.
