The books of Vera Ivanovna Kryzhanovskaya (1861-1924), who also wrote under the pseudonym Rochester, are now undeservedly forgotten by readers, although at the beginning of the century they were popular with the reading public, and critics invariably noted the fascination of the subjects. The plot of her books is rather complicated, has a fantastic bias and an original "spiritualistic" worldview. The main business of Kryzhanovskaya is the creation of a series of occult esoteric novels. The pentalogy she created about the Brotherhood of the Immortals includes the novels "Elixir of Life", "Magicians", "Wrath of God", "Death of the Planet", "Legislators".
The author consistently leads the heroes into the future - into the fourth millennium - through the moral degradation of technocratic human society, environmental disasters caused by the excessive exploitation of resources to the death of the Earth and the resettlement of the elect to a new planet.
