Wireless sensor networks and the Internet of things

Today, the world has become smaller thanks to the maturity of the Internet of Things (IoT) concept, which uses sensors to firmly integrate the digital communication experience with smart physical devices such as smart grids, smart homes, well-maintained water networks, and smart traffic intersections. The number of objects connected to the Internet is growing, leading to a paradigm shift in the digital age, where smart embedded devices, people and systems are interconnected. The interface of digital information technology, the Internet and digital communications, coupled with modern technological advances, is paving the way for low cost sensors capable of achieving greater accuracy. In such a perspective, wireless sensor network (WSN) technology, consisting of a set of sensor nodes connected to wireless channels and the ability to provide digital interfaces to things in the real world, becomes an indispensable component of IoT. With the concept of IoT, intelligent network devices can be skillfully managed, monitored and controlled.
